Trump to Meet Putin “Very Quickly” After Inauguration
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has indicated his intention to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon after his inauguration on January 20.
“And I know he (Putin) wants to meet, and I’m going to meet him very quickly. I would have done it sooner, but you have to get into the office. For some of the things, you do have to be there,’’ Trump said in an interview with Newsmax.
Earlier in January, Trump did not provide a specific timeline for the meeting but emphasized that it would not take place before his inauguration.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that while no concrete plans had been established, there was mutual political will to begin discussions. He added that such engagements would be “very, very necessary and advisable.”
Additionally, Trump’s National Security Advisor Designate, Mike Waltz, mentioned that the two leaders might have a phone call shortly.
