Trump Isn’t “100% Sure” He Can’t Run For Presidency For The Third Time
Trump has hinted that he’s not “100% sure” that he can’t run for a third term presidency.
This is not the first time the US president, Donald Trump is hinting of wanting to serve a third time.
On Monday 27th January 2025, Trump said “I’ve raised a lot of money for the next race, that I assume I can’t use for myself, but I’m not 100% sure,”
He proceeded with a light-hearted uncertainty, asking the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, “I’m not sure, am I allowed to run again, Mike? I better not get you involved in that.”
This isn’t the first time that Trump has suggested he might pursue a third term in office. During a recent appearance in Las Vegas, he stated, “It will be the greatest honour of my life to serve not once, but twice or three times.”
Meanwhile, U.S. Republican Rep. Andy Ogles from Tennessee has proposed the idea of amending the U.S. Constitution to allow for Trump’s potential third run. However, amending the Constitution is a challenging process; the last amendment, the 27th, was ratified in 1992.
To formally propose an amendment, a two-thirds majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate is required — a threshold Republicans currently cannot meet without wider support. Alternatively, a constitutional convention could be called, but that hasn’t occurred since the 18th century. Additionally, for an amendment to be ratified, three-fourths of state legislatures, meaning 38 states, would need to give their approval.
During a conference dinner, Trump also expressed his fondness for the TikTok app, reiterating his belief that it should be sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
“China won’t be involved,” he said while insisting “a lot of people” are seeking to purchase the platform.
