Trump Administration Seeks New Partners for Golden Dome Missile Defense Amid SpaceX Tensions.

The Trump administration is broadening its search for partners to develop the Golden Dome missile defense system, actively courting Amazon’s Project Kuiper and major defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris.

This shift comes amid rising tensions with Elon Musk’s SpaceX, whose Starlink and Starshield satellite networks have been central to U.S. military communications.

According to sources and reports, the Pentagon and White House are moving to diversify the program’s satellite and launch capabilities to reduce dependence on SpaceX.

Initially, SpaceX had proposed a subscription-based model for the program, which raised concerns among Pentagon officials regarding long-term control and pricing. This prompted a strategic pivot toward involving multiple providers to enhance resilience and oversight.

The Golden Dome system, modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome, is designed to provide a multi-layered defense against missile threats.

With $13 billion recently secured in funding and the appointment of General Michael Guetlein as project leader, the administration aims to accelerate deployment, with key milestones anticipated within the next 120 days.

While SpaceX remains a key player in military communications, the administration’s move reflects a broader effort to balance innovation with security by expanding partnerships beyond a single contractor.
