President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has responded to the growing backlash against Tinubu’s social media persona, “T-pain.”

The phrase “T-pain,” which combines the words “Tinubu” and “pain,” has gained popularity online and expresses public displeasure about Nigeria’s economic difficulties.

Onanuga emphasised in an interview with Channels Television that President Tinubu is dedicated to enhancing the economy despite being aware of the challenges Nigerians confront.

“The president is aware that the citizens are going through some difficulties,” he stated.”The president does not read what is on social media,” he added, dismissing the social media moniker as unrelated to Tinubu’s goals. Out of mischief, some individuals simply call someone a T-pain.

T-pain is not him [Tinubu]. Onanuga maintained that Tinubu’s measures are intended to bring about long-term economic reform, even though they may cause temporary hardship. “The president has never shied away from telling Nigerians that he feels their pain and he is working very hard to make sure that he gives them some relief so that things will get better and this country will get more prosperity,” he stated.

“We are experiencing economic growth, despite inflation; revenues have increased.”Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had criticized Tinubu earlier this month, calling him “T-pain” and casting doubt on his handling of the economic crisis, especially the rise in petrol prices. “It is even more worrying that T-pain is undisturbed by the hardship in the country,” Atiku said, blaming the administration’s gasoline subsidy management strategy for the nation’s present economic woes.

Tinubu’s administration is coming under increasing public criticism due to inflation and economic challenges in Nigeria, but Onanuga insisted that the president is focused on the country’s long-term success.
