Tinubu Advocates for Conversion of Filling Stations to CNG Outlets, Says Minister
As part of initiatives to promote cleaner, less expensive energy options, President Bola Tinubu has ordered that filling stations throughout Nigeria be converted to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) outlets, according to Ekperipke Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas).
Following a federal executive council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, Ekpo spoke at the State House and emphasised Tinubu’s pledge to increase the usage of CNG, which he characterised as safer, more economical, and more ecologically friendly than conventional fuels.
“As we know, the president has formed a presidential committee on CNG, and we have been tasked with making sure that the majority of filling stations nationwide are converted to CNG stations,” Ekpo stated.
He went on to say that the government will make conversion kits more widely available so Nigerians may modify their cars to run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
According to Ekpo, who highlighted the enormous cost reductions provided by CNG, a normal cubic meter of CNG costs N200, but a litre of gasoline might cost up to N1,000.
The campaign for CNG is in line with Tinubu’s previous remarks that Nigerians have the option of switching to CNG, which costs N200 per standard cubic meter, or purchasing gasoline, which costs N1,000 a litre.
In order to enable Nigerians to take advantage of the country’s plentiful natural gas resources, Ekpo finished by expressing confidence in the government’s efforts to advance the CNG program throughout the entire nation.
