Mohbad’s Father, Joseph Aloba, Says Life Improved After Son’s Tragic Death

Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that his life significantly improved following his son’s untimely passing.

Mohbad died under controversial circumstances on September 11, 2023, at just 26 years old. Reflecting on the aftermath, Aloba shared, “Yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he was my friend. He had plans to do many things for me, but they didn’t allow him to fulfill them. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad and God working together that started sending people to help me.”

Aloba disclosed that he received various gifts from compassionate Nigerians, including a car, a truck, and other valuable items. “Everything I have now—the car, the truck—was given to me by people. It’s beyond ordinary. It was Mohbad’s spirit and God that moved people to bless me with all I have today,” he added.

He also spoke about the challenges Mohbad faced before his death, claiming that his son’s wife, Wunmi, and her family controlled most of the singer’s assets. “They did a lot concerning that boy. All his landed properties are in their possession. Even the land he bought for me to build a church—I had to push him to buy it and make blocks on it. That same land was used to bury him,” Aloba alleged.

Aloba recalled Mohbad’s intention to buy him a house after completing his tour, revealing that the purchase had already been paid for before his son’s passing.

Reflecting on their bond, Aloba shared how Mohbad’s birth changed his life. After money from Mohbad’s naming ceremony was stolen, Aloba pursued music, with Mohbad serving as his backup singer from the age of one.

A carpenter, singer, and pastor without a physical church, Aloba said Mohbad had promised to build him a church before his sudden death.

Since Mohbad’s passing, Aloba has released nine songs and continues to receive support from Nigerians.
