TCN Report that the Gombe-Borno Transmission Tower has been Damaged by vandals

In a statement released on Sunday, September 22, Ndidi Mbah, general manager of public affairs at Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), stated that vandals had destroyed its tower T372, which is situated along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line.

The incident took place at Kasaisa village, Gujba LGA, which is located along Biu-Damaturu

“This development has thrown the whole of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, up to Maiduguri in Borno State out of power supply,” TCN said.

“This time, the vandals cut off all four tower footing, resulting in the collapse of tower T372 along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri section, which was discovered by TCN’s linesmen deployed on emergency patrol.

“Following this destructive attack, effort is ongoing by TCN’s engineers in the interim, to back feed Damaturu through a 33kV transmission line from Potiskum, while Maiduguri town will be fed from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).”

According to TCN, work will start right away to disassemble and remove the fallen tower in order to rebuild and restore the gearbox line. “Report suspicious activities or persons around our transmission infrastructure to law enforcement agents or TCN offices in that vicinity,” the corporation further advised Nigerians.

The organisation promised that bulk electricity would be restored to the impacted areas as soon as possible and that it would speed up the tower’s renovation to make sure it is finished as soon as feasible.
