Suspect who tossed a 16-year-old girl down a well after robbing and assaulting her in Katsina is apprehended by police

Usman Mohammed Iyal, 24, has been taken into custody by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly raping and plunging a sixteen-year-old girl into a well in the state’s Katsina Local Government Area.

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Usman was displayed with other alleged criminals by the command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, who claimed that he had been apprehended on September 17 in the ambassadors’ quarters.

He said that while the victim was running errands, the suspect approached her, threatened her with a knife, and then dragged her into an incomplete structure where he “violently assaulted and r@ped” her.

He claimed that the suspect pushed the woman into a neighboring well and tossed stones down it in an attempt to hide his crime, but she was not killed.

The PPRO said that the Katsina State Police Command was successful in apprehending a suspect who was believed to be responsible for the violent attack and attempted murder of a sixteen-year-old girl in the Ambassador’s quarters in Katsina on September 27, 2024, at approximately 12:16 a.m.

“The victim’s mother sent her on an errand when the suspect, a 24-year-old guy from Ambassador’s quarters, approached her, threatened her, and pulled her into an unfinished structure where he brutally attacked and sexually molested her.

“The victim’s father, Abdullahi Sabitu, reported the event at the GRA divisional police headquarters as soon as she vanished, which prompted prompt action.

The victim was successfully pulled from the well by an investigative team, who also apprehended the suspect. The inquiry is still ongoing, and the victim is now undergoing medical attention.

He said the state’s police would conduct a preliminary investigation and then file charges against the suspect for rape, assault, and attempted murder.
