Son of Boko Haram Founder Arrested in Chad for Leading Jihadist Cell.
young son of Boko Haram’s founder, Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, has been arrested in Chad for allegedly leading a jihadist cell, according to intelligence and former insurgent sources.
He was detained with five others believed to be part of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a Boko Haram offshoot.
Muslim, said to be around 18 years old, was a baby when his father, Boko Haram founder Mohammed Yusuf, was killed in 2009.
He reportedly uses the alias Abdrahman Mahamat Abdoulaye and is the younger brother of ISWAP leader Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi.
Chadian police confirmed the arrest of six suspected Boko Haram members but did not verify Yusuf’s identity.
A former insider also confirmed the arrest. The suspects were described as undocumented bandits and arrested months ago. Nigerian authorities have not yet commented.
