Residents of Sokoto State have been urged to stay vigilant following a rise in suspected meningitis cases in certain local government areas.

This warning was issued in a statement by Nura Maikwanci, the Information/Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, on behalf of Commissioner for Health, Faruk Wurno, on Tuesday.

According to Maikwanci, laboratory tests have confirmed multiple cases of the disease.

The statement highlighted the government’s efforts to contain the outbreak, including enhanced surveillance, improved case management, and public health interventions.

“We urge residents to take precautionary measures and seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, severe headache, or neck stiffness,” the statement advised.

It also stressed the need for maintaining personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding overcrowding, and ensuring proper ventilation in homes and public spaces.

Commissioner Wurno called on the public to report suspected cases to the nearest health facility and reassured residents that Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has ensured the availability of essential medications at health centres across the state.
