Senior Russian Naval Officer K!lled in Kursk Region, Says Moscow.

Major General Mikhail Gudkov, the deputy head of the Russian Navy, has been k!lled in action near the Ukrainian border, according to a statement released Thursday by Russia’s Defence Ministry.

Gudkov, one of the Russian military’s highest-ranking officers, di€d on Wednesday “during combat work in one of the border districts of Kursk region,” the ministry said. The statement did not provide further details about the circumstances of his death, but suggested it was the result of Ukrainian military action.

Gudkov, a former commander of a Russian marine brigade involved in the war against Ukraine, had played a prominent role in Moscow’s military efforts. In February, he received a top state honour from President Vladimir Putin during a Kremlin ceremony, recognizing his service and leadership.

His d€ath marks a significant loss for the Russian military amid ongoing hostilities in the border regions, and underscores Ukraine’s continued ability to strike targets deep inside Russian territory. Ukrainian officials have not commented on the incident.
