Russian Missile Strike on Kyiv Kills One and Ignites Fires, Ukraine Reports

At least one civilian was killed and four others were injured Wednesday by a Russian missile salvo fired on the Ukrainian capital before morning, which also caused multiple fires in the three-million-person city, according to Ukrainian officials.
Around 02:30 GMT, a string of strong explosions rocked the capital, and local authorities reported that air defences were attempting to stop the strikes.
Following the incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy declared, “This Russian terror against Ukraine will not stop on its own,” calling for cooperation among allies in order to bring the conflict to a fair conclusion.
“Putin is not preparing for peace – he continues to kill Ukrainians and destroy cities.”
U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks that he had been in communication with Kyiv and Putin have raised hopes for new peace talks to resolve the war that Russia began on Ukraine almost three years ago.
On Tuesday, Zelenskiy added that Kyiv would shortly meet with U.S. authorities. According to Ukraine’s air force, it intercepted six of the seven ballistic missiles that were fired during the assault.
The military shot down 71 of the 123 drones and probably used electronic countermeasures against the remaining 40.
