Rivers State Head of Service Resigns Amid State of Emergency as Ibas Appoints New SSG
Dr. George Nwaeke, the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, has tendered his resignation, marking a significant development just days after the federal government declared a state of emergency in the state.
His resignation was officially confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.).
Expressing gratitude for Nwaeke’s contributions, Ibas acknowledged his service during the brief period under the new administration and extended his best wishes for his future endeavors.
“The office of His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, regrets to announce the resignation of the Head of Service, Rivers State, Dr. George Nwaeke, FCA, Mni,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, in a swift administrative decision, Ibas has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
A separate statement highlighted that Professor Worika’s selection was based on his distinguished career spanning academia, international law, and policy advisory roles. His appointment aligns with the administrator’s vision to foster governance stability in the state during this transitional period.
“His Excellency, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.) CFR, the Administrator of Rivers State, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG),” the statement read.
Professor Worika is expected to assume office immediately, contributing to efforts aimed at restoring order and implementing federal directives in Rivers State.
“The appointment reflects the administrator’s dedication to leveraging the expertise of Rivers’ finest minds in ensuring peace, stability, and security within the state,” the statement concluded.
