The Rivers State Assembly has accused Governor Fubara of deliberately obstructing the re-presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, a crucial step mandated by a court ruling.

During a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Enemi George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Assembly spokesperson, urged the public to hold the governor accountable and adhere to due process rather than manipulating public opinion against the lawmakers.

George challenged the governor to produce evidence of a letter he claimed to have sent to the Assembly regarding the budget presentation. He recounted an incident where the governor, during an interview, alleged that the letter had been sent, a claim the Assembly denies. George dismissed the governor’s aides’ assertion that the letter was sent via WhatsApp as “awkward, unprofessional, and embarrassing.”

George emphasized that the Assembly had no record of such a letter and accused the governor of attempting to stir public sentiment against the Assembly. He also revealed that after the Supreme Court invalidated the appointments of several state commissioners, the Assembly requested a new list of nominees, but their letter was rejected.

Further, George accused the governor of instructing ministries, agencies, and departments to sever communication with the Assembly. He lamented the hardships endured by lawmakers, including the destruction of the Assembly’s chamber, the burning of the Speaker’s residence, and the withholding of allowances for over a year.

Despite these challenges, George stressed the Assembly’s commitment to the welfare of Rivers people, including pensioners, teachers, and public service workers, and called on the governor to act in the state’s best interest.
