Police Officer Daniel Amah receives recognition after turning down a $200,000 bribe to convert to Islam.
Daniel Amah, the famous Assistant Commissioner of Police who turned down a $200,000 bribe, accepted Islam at a ceremony in the palace of Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano.
Amah was formally accepted into the faith at the private ceremony on Tuesday. He changed his name to Muhammad.
The Emir encouraged Amah to learn about Islam and to follow the five pillars of Islam: faith in Allah, the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, the trip to Mecca, and zakat (charitable giving), while speaking in Hausa. In order for Amah to become one of the greatest Muslims in the world, the Emir appealed to Allah for guidance.
In addition, he cautioned him to maintain his moral character and to show his parents respect and obedience regardless of their religious views.
Amah earlier became well-known as the Divisional Police Officer in Kano State’s Nasarawa Local Government Area after he turned down a $200,000 bribe from suspects in an armed robbery in April 2022. Over N300 million was taken by the suspects during a robbery.
Ali Zaki, the main suspect, had conspired with the bandits to track down and rob a Bureau De Change employee who had $750,000 in cash.
On November 10, 2022, Amah was elevated from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission in appreciation of his integrity.
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, recommended him in a letter dated September 13, 2022, and former President Muhammadu Buhari recognised him with the renowned 2022 Public Service Integrity Award.
