Osimhen Poised to Break Galatasaray European Scoring Record

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is on the verge of making history with Galatasaray as the Turkish champions prepare to face Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Osimhen currently shares the club’s record for scoring in six consecutive European matches with former striker Burak Yilmaz, who set the mark in 2012. A goal against the Norwegian side would see Osimhen become the sole record-holder.

The 26-year-old has been in strong form since completing a permanent move to Galatasaray in August, following a remarkable 2023/24 season in which he registered 37 goals and seven assists in 41 matches. He has three goals in seven games so far this term and recently kept his European streak alive with a decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Osimhen had missed Galatasaray’s Champions League opener against Frankfurt due to an ankle injury but returned in time to contribute against the Premier League champions. His recent international hat-trick for Nigeria against Benin in World Cup qualifying further underlines his sharp form.

Galatasaray sit mid-table in their Champions League group with one win and one loss. Despite domestic dominance — including 19 wins from their last 20 matches and a third straight league title — European success has been limited. Meanwhile, debutants Bodo/Glimt remain unbeaten in the competition, having drawn both of their opening games and recently won 5-2 in the Norwegian league.
