Olympic Champion Zheng Pulls Out of U.S. Open After Elbow Surgery.
Zheng Qinwen, Olympic gold medalist, withdraws from the U.S. Open due to recovery from right elbow surgery, tournament organizers say Monday.
World No. 6 Zheng said last week on Instagram she’s been dealing with constant pain in her right elbow, affecting her training and matches.
After trying several treatments without success, she chose arthroscopic surgery following talks with specialists and her support team.
She now plans to take a short break from competition to recover. The 22-year-old Chinese player had a strong season last year, winning gold in Paris and making the 2024 Australian Open final.
Her momentum stalled at Wimbledon this year, where she lost in the first round to Czech player Katerina Siniakova earlier in July.
