Ogun State Shuts Down School, Suspends Principal and Teacher Following Pupil’s Death

Obada Grammar School in Obada, Idi-emi has been closed by the Ogun State government due to the death of Master Monday, an SS2 student.

This came after the teacher, who was reportedly responsible for the student’s death on Friday of last week due to physical punishment, was arrested and suspended.

Tamrat Onaolapo, the school’s principal, has also been suspended after previously receiving a query for permitting the student to be subjected to physical punishment in violation of state laws.

Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor of the state, ordered the school to close and also ordered the formation of a panel to look into the events leading up to the regrettable tragedy.

The state governor has pledged that those found accountable by the investigation’s findings will be subject to the full force of the law.

The family of the deceased student has also been visited by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
