“Obasanjo: Current Insecurity in Nigeria Exceeds Levels During My Administration”

Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, has voiced his grave concern over Nigeria’s escalating insecurity and called for immediate action to resolve the issue.

On Sunday,October 20,Obasanjo made the statement while visiting Bauchi State and launching a number of road projects built by Governor Bala Mohammed.

Speaking at the palace of Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman-Adamu, the Emir of Bauchi,Obasanjo emphasised that the security situation in Nigeria is farworse now than it was when he was president.

He underlined that one of the most importantways to address the growing crime rates is through community policing.

“The best form of security is community policing because everyone knows his/her neighbours within the community With that, it is very easy to identify the bad eggs,” Obasanjo said, stressing the importance of local knowledge in identifying and addressing security threats.

The former president asked that urgent action be done to alleviate the instability that has engulfed portions of the country.”Nigeria’s current state of insecurity is much worse than it was when we were in government, when we placed a higher priority on protecting people’s lives and property across.We must take immediate action on this,” he continued.

Obasanjo also urged traditional leaders to actively support community policing in their areas in order to reduce the rise in crime.

Looking back on his tenure, he emphasised the value of cooperation, solidarity, and shared accountability in addressing Nigeria’s security issues.

“During our service to the nation, we did everything collectively, our decisions were taken together to have a uniform focus. My brother, Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu, is seated here, and he will bear me witness. Whatever we achieved then was a collective effort.

He emphasised in his conclusion that Nigeria could restore its security and stability via cooperation and togetherness.”

If we are to advance as a nation, we must have peace, unity, and mutual support. “All we have to do is unite and work together to make things right and good in the country again,” Obasanjo said.
