Nigerian-British Officer Dismissed from UK Police for Biting Colleague at Party

PC Shola Balogun, a Nigerian-British officer, was fired by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom after biting a coworker.

Seventy people attended an officer’s 40th birthday celebration at Goals Sports Bar in Bexleyheath, South East London, on April 22, 2022.

A fellow unnamed officer told the hearing that PC Shola Balogun arrived “in a ridiculously drunken state.”

Other police confirmed that Balogun was extremely inebriated and continued to drink throughout the evening.

The officer who was the target of Balogun’s actions was ascending a set of stairs at approximately 11.30 p.m. when he noticed Balogun in front of him.

After removing the officer’s glasses from his face, Balogun let them fall to the ground. After the officer gave him a cordial response, Balogun shoved him in the throat.

Shortly later, the officer lodged a complaint over Balogun’s actions.

The music was so loud that the two were barely a foot apart. Balogun leaned forward at this point and bit the officer’s right cheek.

The panel didn’t trust Balogun when he denied pushing and biting his colleague, especially when a medical examination revealed the officer had a possible bite mark on their cheek.

According to a hearing, PC Shola Balogun’s actions were so serious that a Final Written Warning was insufficient.

The panel stated that it “is satisfied on the balance of probabilities that PC Balogun bit PC in order to assault him on April 22, 2022, while off duty at Goals Bexleyheath.”
