NAFDAC finds warehouses in Aba and confiscates 140 tonnes of outdated medications.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control announced that it had discovered two warehouses at No.
269, Sam Mbakwe Road (formerly Faulk’s Road), Aba, that were stocked with expired medications. Prior to the arrival of security reinforcements, some suspects reportedly managed to remove several cartons of expired but relabelled drugs.

NAFDAC seized 140 tonnes of expired drugs in a related operation at Umumeje, Umuocheala, Osisioma LGA; this amount excludes other items seized from drug stores at the Ariaria International Market.
178 drug samples were gathered by NAFDAC inspectors during the raid; these samples will be analysed in a lab to ascertain their composition and possible health hazards.
The statement went on to say, “140 tonnes of expired drugs were evacuated from the warehouse at Umumeje, Umuocheala, Osisioma LGA—excluding products seized from drug shops at Ariaria International Market.”
“A laboratory analysis will be performed on 178 drug samples that were collected during the operation.”
