Musk said he will’make government entertaining again’
Elon Musk has been named to co-lead Donald Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (or Doge for short), which was established to reduce government spending, as we have been reporting.
Although Musk gives some broad clues in an hours-long posting frenzy on X, we still don’t know much about the body’s actual functions, how it will interact with existing government systems, or how much authority it will have.
He refers to Doge as “America’s final chance” and asserts that without it, the nation will collapse, adding: “Threat to democracy? No, there is a threat to bureaucracy.
According to one tweet that Musk reposted, the New York Metropolitan Opera fire alarm costs $750,000 in taxes.
Senator Rand Paul’s assertion that $477,121 was spent by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases “to study HIV in transgender monkeys” is referenced in another.
For openness, Musk claims that Doge’s actions will be made public online, and a leaderboard for the “most insanely dumb spending of your tax dollars” will be established.
Given that there are already around 400 federal agencies and sub-agencies, he asserts that 99 agencies is “more than enough”.
Musk concludes by saying that this is “Making Government Fun Again!”
