More than 200 executive actions will be taken by US President-elect Donald Trump on his first day in office.
Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States, is expected to sign over 200 executive actions on his first day in office on Monday, January 20.
Trump, 78, defeated Democrat Kamala Harris in the November presidential election and will succeed incumbent President Joe Biden.
According to Fox News Digital, the moves include 50 legally binding executive orders, some of which deal with border security and domestic energy production, while others are intended to ensure that government employees are employed on merit.
Trump intends to sign the directives as soon as he is inaugurated, according to Jason Miller, the incoming administration’s senior adviser.
Many of the actions will be part of “omnibus” instructions. According to the outlet, the new president had previously stated that he planned to sign at least 25 directives on his first day in office.
“This is a massive, record-setting, unmatched first wave,” an official told the outlet.
“This is the most extensive list of executive actions in American history, all guided by a relentless commitment to deliver on the campaign promise.”
Trump’s more comprehensive Day One plans have already leaked, including his mass deportation plan set to start in Chicago immediately after his inauguration.
The crackdown would come in addition to a potential citizenship order that would stop automatic citizenship for children of illegal migrants born in the United States.
As part of the orders, Trump will declare a national border emergency, effectively closing the southern US border. It is unclear whether any immediate action will be taken against the country’s northern border.
“On Day One of my new term in office, I will sign an executive order making clear to federal agencies that under the correct interpretation of the law, going forward, the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic US citizenship,” Trump said in a video posted in May of 2023.
The 14th Amendment would be violated by this order, which would probably be contested in court.
Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, Trump has also promised to revoke the security clearances of 51 national security personnel implicated in the Hunter Biden laptop incident.
According to Fox, he will also halt government offshore wind leasing, terminate the Biden administration’s requirements for automakers to produce electric vehicles, and withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.
“I want to be a dictator for one day because I’m gonna get going with, ‘Drill, baby, drill,’” Trump said on the campaign trail, referring to domestic oil production.
“After that, I’ll never be a dictator.”
“There is a massive federal workforce that has been moving its objectives at the expense of the American people and President Trump is taking command, saying, ‘You will serve the American people and only American people,'” the official told Fox.
“This is about stopping corrupt, abusive behaviour and refocusing the government on its fundamental duties to the American people.”
Trump will also implement federal workforce policies that warn employees that they can be fired if they don’t comply with his directives, that people will be hired based on merit, and that workers will have to return to the office rather than work remotely.”
