Manchester United announced on Tuesday plans to construct a new 100,000-capacity stadium, with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe describing it as the “world’s greatest” football venue.

The Premier League club had been weighing options between redeveloping their historic Old Trafford home or building a new stadium nearby.

United have now confirmed their decision to move forward with a brand-new 100,000-seater stadium as the focal point of a broader regeneration project for the Old Trafford area, aligning with the government’s economic growth initiatives.

Unveiled at the London headquarters of architects Foster + Partners—appointed in September to design the stadium district—scaled models and conceptual images showcased the vision for the future of Old Trafford and its surroundings.

“This marks the beginning of an incredibly exciting journey to deliver what will be the world’s greatest football stadium, at the heart of a revitalized Old Trafford,” Ratcliffe stated.

He acknowledged the legacy of the current stadium, which has been home to United for 115 years, but noted that it has fallen behind the world’s top sporting venues.
