Man Defies Daughter in Benue, Court Remands Him
A Magistrates Court in Makurdi on Wednesday, September 18, ordered the remands of a 40-year-old man identified as Adera Sunday, a resident of Welfare Quarters, accused of defiling his under-16-year-old stepdaughter.
Inspector James Ewache, the police prosecutor, told the court that the teenager had reported the case on August 30 at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Markudi.
He said the teenager, who is not 16 years old, alerted the police of the incident and informed them that the abuse had started when she was 13 years old.
“He lures her into taking noxious drugs and, while under the influence, forcefully takes advantage of her,” the prosecutor said.
Ewache, plea the court for another day of hearing as the investigation is still ongoing. He the offence contravened Sections 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004.
The Magistrate, Sonia Ayange, did the take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction. Instead, she ordered the defendant to be remanded at Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigation.
The Magistrate adjourned the case to Oct. 11 for further mention.
