Man Arrested for Faking His Own Kidnap and Demanding N10m Ransom from Brother.
A guy named Biobarakumo Gamade has been taken into custody by members of the Bayelsa State Police Command for allegedly planning his kidnapping and extorting N10 million from his brother.
After being held hostage for N2 million, the suspect and his accomplice, Frank Thompson, were taken into custody on Tuesday, November 5.
On Wednesday, November 6, State Commissioner of Police Alonyenu Francis Idu paraded the suspect at the state police command headquarters.
He revealed that a search was conducted after a case of suspected kidnapping was reported by a guy named Mr. Gemade Esua Igoniamine in October.
According to the police chief, a search was conducted and no evidence was found on the security surveillance cameras at the scene of the kidnapping or at the state’s departure.
“We got a distress call that a black jeep with military personnel kidnapped a man; we searched all our cameras, and no car of such identity was seen.
Later, we got a call from someone who claimed to have kidnapped a victim, demanding a N10 million ransom.
The operatives of the anti-kidnapping swung into action, leading to the arrest of Frank Thompson, who hails from Nembe Local Government Area, through the ransom that was paid.
Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed that they staged the kidnapping to enable them to collect ransom.
They had earlier demanded for N10 m random, but two million naira was paid, which was used to trace them to the hotel where they had lodged outside the state.”
Using the platform, the Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude to Bayelsans, youth organisations, and other partners who have joined the command in stopping crime and criminality before it starts.
He gave locals his word that the police would not give up on creating a safe environment in Bayelsa.
