Malacia of Manchester United returns after a 17-month absence

Tyrell Malacia’s comeback to action in the Manchester United Under-21 team’s EFL Trophy match against Huddersfield Town put an end to his 17-month injury woes.

Since entering the game as a substitute during the Netherlands’ June 2023 Nations League final loss to Croatia, left-back Malacia has remained out.

Since then, the 25-year-old has undergone two separate knee surgeries because an injury turned out to be far more complex than first believed, forcing the cancellation of a February comeback.

During his debut season with United in 2022–2023, Malacia made 39 appearances.

The game was won 4-1 by Huddersfield.
