Lagos Shuts Down Ikeja Golf Club Over Safety Violations.
The Lagos State Building Control Agency has closed the Ikeja Golf Club due to carelessness and a disregard for public safety.
Adu Ademuyiwa, the Director of Public Affairs for the LASBCA, said in a statement on Wednesday that the action came after many complaints regarding safety violations at the club.
“The Lagos State Building Control Agency has taken decisive action by sealing off the Ikeja Golf Club at Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA,” the statement said, following multiple instances of neglect that prompted concerns about property damage, public safety, and life safety.
“The closure was prompted by repeated complaints and a recent incident in which a golf ball struck a LASBCA staff member in its Ikeja Headquarters premises.
“In addition to this unfortunate incident, there have been multiple cases of errant golf balls causing damage to vehicles in the vicinity.”
“It is concerning to witness such negligence from a reputable establishment.
Persistent disregard for safety regulations is unacceptable, particularly when it puts lives and property at risk,” Oki said.
Oki emphasised that the club’s failure to take preventive action is against safety rules and reaffirmed LASBCA’s dedication to shielding locals and guests from avoidable risks.
He went on to say that unless the club put in place suitable safety measures to mitigate the hazards, it would stay sealed.
