At least 97% of the 18,466 employees of the Kwara State administration have received their November wages and bonuses, the state administration announced Tuesday evening.

The 4.5% of people who have not yet received their November pay, according to a statement from the state commissioner for finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, are either those who have not yet registered with the State Resident Registration Agency as instructed by the government since July 2024 or those who have other unresolved matters.

Remember how the Nigeria Labour Congress’s state council leadership begged the state government to release the pay that its workers in the 16 local government areas of the state had been denied in November 2024?

About 75% of the state’s workforce, primarily local government employees, have not yet received their November 2024 salary, according to a statement released by NLC’s state secretary, Isiah Elachochi-Eigege.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives were among the affected employees, the NLC said.

However, the government also stated in a statement released on Tuesday by Babatunde Abdulrasheed, the press secretary for the Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the commissioner, that 97% of SUBEB employees and teachers have received their monthly salaries, with the remaining 3% being those who do not have KWSRRA bonafide.

According to the statement, “77% of the workforce in the local government areas has received payment, while the remaining 23% have not complied with the KWSRRA requirements.”

These state, SUBEB, and local government numbers refute the assertion that either 75% or 45% of the workforce was underpaid.

“We had previously spoken with NLC representatives and given them accurate information on the current situation. We also discussed how people who are genuinely bona fide workers might go about getting theirs,” the state administration stated.

The statement encouraged any legitimate workers who have not received their November pay to verify their claims with the Ministry of Finance and KWSRRA.

“Every citizen should support the effort to register every resident in the state for the purposes of accurate data, security, and payroll system sanitization.” As has been the government’s trademark, we reassure employees that the administration is still dedicated to paying their salaries and providing for their welfare on time.

In order to ensure that no legitimate employee goes unpaid, the government is dedicated to addressing all pending concerns. In order to benefit everyone, we implore our fellow labor union members to wholeheartedly embrace this transparency movement,” the statement continued.
