Kremlin Signals Readiness for Dialogue with U.S. Amid Ukraine Conflict

Kremlin announced on Friday, January 24, that Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to engage in discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is awaiting “signals” from Washington before proceeding.

“Putin is ready. We are waiting for signals,” Peskov told reporters, reaffirming the Russian leader’s willingness to initiate talks. Both leaders have previously expressed openness to meeting to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Nonetheless, President Trump has warned Russia of stricter economic sanctions unless it takes steps to end the hostilities.

Peskov did not elaborate on the specifics of a potential meeting, acknowledging the difficulty of predicting whether such discussions will occur. He also rejected Trump’s recent claim that reducing oil prices could resolve the war in Ukraine, stating, “The conflict is rooted in Russia’s national security concerns and issues affecting Russians living in Ukraine.”

The Kremlin spokesman criticized what he described as the “lack of desire and complete refusal of Americans and Europeans to listen to Russia’s concerns,” arguing that these factors are central to the ongoing crisis.

This announcement highlights the escalating tensions between the United States and Russia as the international community closely observes developments in the region.
