Kremlin Announces Russia’s Readiness to Support Iran’s Nuclear Program

Russia has signaled its readiness to support Iran in managing issues related to its nuclear program, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who spoke with Iranian news agency IRNA on Tuesday.
Peskov highlighted the importance of Russia’s close ties with Iran and reiterated Moscow’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in various sectors.
“Our support for Iran includes assistance in addressing key matters such as its nuclear program,” Peskov stated. He also stressed that diplomatic negotiations remain the preferred approach to resolving global concerns about Iran’s nuclear activities, provided all involved parties demonstrate the necessary political will.
In 2015, Iran reached a nuclear agreement with the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, and France, which offered sanctions relief in return for limitations on its nuclear program.
However, in 2018, then-U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement and reimposed sanctions on Tehran. In response, Iran gradually scaled back its nuclear commitments, including increasing uranium enrichment.
