Kano Hisbah arrests couple for  getting married in a restaurant.

Due to their serious marriage ceremony at the Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road in Kano, a man and his girlfriend were detained by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

Dr Mujahideen Abubakar, the board’s Deputy Commander General of Operations, confirmed the arrest to PUNCH Online on Thursday. He said that Hisbah officers had stormed the restaurant on Wednesday night after receiving a tip.

“It’s very unfortunate to tell you that the solemnisation of the purported marriage was conducted in the restaurant by friends of the man without the consent of the parents of the couple,” he said.

He cautioned that the board would not stand by and let certain undesirable elements carry on breaking the state’s shari’a.He said that the board had now started a manhunt to find all of the attendees who took part in the unlawful marriage ceremony.

“We arrested the couple. We are trailing friends of the groom who fled the restaurant after our personnel stormed the place,” he added.

According to the deputy commander, the pair blatantly disregarded Shari’a law by breaking all of the marriage’s requirements.
