Kano Governor to Launch Emirate Council in April, Orders Sallah Durbar Preparations.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the four emirates in the state to begin preparations for the upcoming Sallah Durbar, which marks the end of Ramadan.

This annual event, known for its grand horse parades and vibrant celebrations, is a major cultural highlight in Kano and other northern Nigerian cities.

Governor Yusuf’s directive aims to ensure that the 2025 Sallah Durbar is a memorable and secure event for both residents and visitors.

In addition to the Durbar preparations, the governor has also announced plans to officially unveil the Kano State Emirate Council in April. The new council will introduce guidelines to strengthen the role of traditional institutions in the region.

This initiative comes after a period of administrative restructuring in the state, which included the creation and dissolution of additional emirates.

The upcoming reorganization seeks to restore Kano’s historical emirate structure, reinforcing the traditional authority of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was reinstated in May 2024.

The unveiling of the Emirate Council and the Sallah Durbar preparations are part of the state’s broader efforts to celebrate its cultural heritage and ensure the smooth operation of its traditional institutions.
