JUST IN: Meranda is sworn in as the first female speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
The Lagos State House of Assembly has made history by swearing in Mojisola Meranda as its first female Speaker.
Meranda assumed the position following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa during a plenary session on Monday.
Representing the Apapa 1 Constituency in the Assembly, Meranda pledged her commitment while taking the oath of office. She declared, “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
