Imo State Police command Take Disciplinary Action Against Officers Caught Assaulting Man in Viral Video.

The Imo State Police Command has taken disciplinary action after a viral video surfaced showing officers assaulting a man along the Owerri–Aba Road.
In the footage, the victim, who appeared to be a passenger in a commercial vehicle, was seen being slapped and kicked by the officers.
In response, DSP Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesperson, identified the involved officers as Inspector Ofem Obongha, Inspector Obinna Okereke, and Sergeant Anayo Ekezie from the Safer Highway Unit.
An internal disciplinary hearing was held in accordance with police regulations.
Sergeant Ekezie, who used a service smoke gunner during the assault, was found guilty and demoted to Corporal. The two Inspectors received strong reprimands for failing to properly supervise the situation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, strongly criticized the behavior, stating it violated the police’s Code of Conduct and human rights policies.
He emphasized the force’s commitment to professionalism and a zero-tolerance approach to misconduct.
