“Hezbollah Appoints Sheikh Naim Qassem as New Leader Following Nasrallah’s Death”.

More than a month after Haasan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli strike last month, Hezbollah of Lebanon formally announced that it had elected deputy leader Naim Qassem to take over as leader, replacing Nasrallah, who had been the militant group’s acting leader.

“Hezbollah’s (governing) Shura Council agreed to elect… Sheikh Naim Qassem as secretary general of Hezbollah,” the Iran-backed organisation said in a statement, vowing to stick to Nasrallah’s policies “until victory is achieved!”In late September of this year, Israel attacked Beirut, killing Hassan Nasrallah, the former head of Hezbollah.

Subsequent Israeli strikes on the suburbs of Beirut have since killed a number of other high-ranking Hezbollah officials.

There is no verified information regarding Sheikh Naim Qassem’s present location, according to independent Iranian media. A new Hezbollah leader was appointed while tensions between Israel and Hezbollah are rising, which raises fears of additional regional instability.
