Graphic Designer Sentenced to Life for Raping 7-Year-Old During Lockdown

A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced 25-year-old graphic designer, Abodurin Apelogun, to life imprisonment for raping his neighbour’s seven-year-old daughter during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Justice Rahman Oshodi delivered the judgment on Tuesday, ruling that the prosecution proved the charge of defilement beyond reasonable doubt. The incident occurred on June 19, 2020, at Oil Mill Street, Lagos Island.

Key evidence included the survivor’s testimony, witness accounts, and a medical report from the Mirabel Centre confirming sexual assault. The judge noted Apelogun showed no remorse and denied the offence despite overwhelming evidence.

Apelogun’s name was ordered to be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register, and he will serve his sentence at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre.
