“Governor Fintiri Expresses Concern for Democracy in Nigeria Following Edo Election”
The governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has voiced his displeasure with the outcomes of the Edo State governorship contest.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Monday Okpebholo of the APC the victor of the September 21 governorship contest.
In a statement released to the public today, September 22, Fintiri voiced his regret for Nigeria’s democracy and referred to the process as abhorrent.
“After seeing the abhorrent Edo Gubernatorial poll, I cry for Nigeria’s democracy. The APC’s pathetic attempts to delegitimize me by pretending I declared results won’t divert attention from the true problem. Fintiri stated, “I simply shared the results that INEC had compiled from the various Local Government Areas using the Irev portal.”

It is really disgraceful that the national chairman of the APC violated movement limits on election day by flying into Edo on a private plane, while their governors intimidated voters with armored escorts.
The true brigandage lies in this flagrant contempt for democratic standards. Outraged, Nigerians are criticizing INEC for caving in and giving the APC the upper hand. Democracy is undercut by allegations of vote-buying, collation process disruptions, and questionable outcomes with more votes than eligible voters. It is true that democracy is in danger.
We have to demand accountability and denounce this assault on democracy. Nigeria deserves better, and the entire world is watching.
