FG Prepared to Welcome Deportees as 3,690 Nigerians in the US Face Deportation, NiDCOM Says.
On Tuesday evening, January 28, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media and Corporate Affairs for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, told Vanguard that the Federal Government is prepared to accept Nigerians who have been deported from the United States of America.
He also stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was in charge of this development and that FG had already established an interagency committee to deal with the issue in the event that Nigerians were deported from the US.
“The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and office of the National Security AAdviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US.” he stated.
The NiDCOM spokeswoman emphasised, however, that its agency was unaware of any deportation proceedings involving Nigerians in the United States.
As Donald Trump cracks down on illegal immigrants in the United States, 3,690 Nigerians are in danger of being deported. 3,690 Nigerians are scheduled for deportation, according to a list released by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in November 2024. It is thought that now that Donald Trump is president, the number will increase.
