FG Files Terrorism Charges Against Five in Owo Church Attack, Arraignment Awaited.
The Federal Government is set to arraign five suspects in connection with the deadly attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.
The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) has filed a nine-count charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/301/2025, against the accused persons.
According to the charge, signed by M.B. Abubakar, Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, the suspects alongside others still at large allegedly joined the terrorist group Al Shabab in 2021 and established a cell in Kogi State.
This act is said to violate Section 25(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
In a separate count, the suspects are accused of attending and organizing meetings on May 30, June 3, and June 4, 2022, at Government Secondary School in Ogamirana, Adavi LGA (Kogi), and near Omialafa Central Mosque in Ose LGA (Ondo).
During these meetings, they allegedly planned the June 5, 2022, terrorist attack on the Owo church.
This offense falls under Section 12(a) of the same Act.At the time this report was filed, the suspects had not yet appeared in court for their formal arraignment.
