FG Approves ₦3.6 Trillion for Repairs of Third Mainland Bridge.
The Federal Government has approved ₦3.6 trillion for rehabilitating Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge, citing severe damage to its underwater structures caused by erosion, corrosion, and illegal sand mining.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this decision following a Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
He emphasised that the bridge’s deterioration presents serious safety risks, necessitating urgent intervention.
Additionally, ₦359 billion was approved for the reconstruction of the Carter Bridge, which has been deemed irreparable, and ₦134 billion was allocated for upgrades to the Kano-Katsina Road.
Completed in 1990, the Third Mainland Bridge is one of Africa’s longest bridges and is a crucial link in Lagos’ transport network. Its rehabilitation.
