England retained their European crown by beating Spain 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Euro 2025 final in Basel. Chloe Kelly scored the winning spot-kick as the Lionesses avenged their 2023 World Cup final loss to Spain.

Mariona Caldentey gave Spain a first-half lead, but Alessia Russo equalized just before the hour mark. Despite Spain dominating possession, England held firm, taking the match to extra time and then penalties.

Beth Mead and Leah Williamson had penalties saved, but Alex Greenwood and Niamh Charles converted, while Spain missed three of their four kicks — including an effort by Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati. Kelly sealed the victory.

Manager Sarina Wiegman celebrated her third straight Euro title, having won with the Netherlands in 2017 and England in 2022. “We can win by any means,” she said. England had made comebacks in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, showing grit throughout the tournament.
