El-Rufai Chose Not to Attend APC NEC Meeting, Says Party Spokesman.

Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has shared that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, made the decision to voluntarily miss the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on February 26, 2025.

In discussions with journalists, Morka emphasized that invitations were carefully sent to all NEC members, and attendance was entirely at the discretion of those invited. He mentioned he was not entirely sure about El-Rufai’s current status within the committee.

The NEC meeting marked an important occasion, being the first since President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023. It welcomed esteemed party leaders, including President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

While several prominent figures were present, notable absences included former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and El-Rufai.

El-Rufai’s absence coincides with ongoing discussions about party dynamics. Previously, he had expressed concerns that President Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu influenced the decision regarding his ministerial nomination. According to him, these actions were motivated by political ambitions related to the upcoming 2031 presidential election.

The APC NEC meeting proceeded under robust security measures in Abuja, focusing on the party’s internal matters and strategic planning for the future.
