EFCC Agents break into an Enugu radio Station and take the Presenter Hostage during a live show.
At 6:45 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, while the “Prime Time” program was in progress, EFCC agents raided Urban Radio 94.5fm in Enugu State and arrested presenter Favour Ekoh.
The station confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday and apologised to its listeners for the disruption of the program.
Urban Radio said that the agents allegedly “abducted presenters and seized communication equipment” without explaining their actions.“
The Board and Management of Urban Radio 94.5FM, Enugu regrets the abrupt halting and disruption of our programme on Monday evening,” the statement read.
“Armed men identifying as the EFCC had barged into the studio and interrupted the live program ‘Prime – Time’, forcefully abducted our presenters and took away our communication equipment for reasons they vehemently refused to disclose.”
“Whilst we are following up with the matter, we will continue to inform our dear listeners accordingly through this medium.
Once again, we apologize for the unethical break-in into our live studio and disruption of your favourite programmes and hope that the matter will be resolved as soon as possible and for whatever the reasons.”
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, however, has justified the anti-graft agency’s actions, stating that the agency was at the station to arrest presenter Favour Ekoh due to her suspected involvement in a Ponzi scheme that deceived 103 Nigerians.
The EFCC spokeswoman added that no communication equipment was taken by agents and that only Ekoh was detained.
Oyewale stated that after the presenter turned down multiple invites, agency agents followed her down to the station.
