Dumebi Kachikwu Alleges Peter Obi Plans to Leave ADC.

Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for 2023, has claimed that former Labour Party (LP) presidential hopeful Peter Obi is considering leaving the ADC-led coalition.

In July, Obi joined forces with other opposition leaders under the ADC banner to form a stronger alliance aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Just two days after the coalition was announced, Obi publicly confirmed his intention to run for president in 2027, while still remaining a member of the Labour Party. This announcement sparked speculation about his political direction and loyalty.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Kachikwu alleged that Obi has come to realize the coalition was never meant to be neutral or inclusive. He claimed the ADC coalition is being used to support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambitions.

Kachikwu said, “The entire ADC structure is being molded to serve Atiku Abubakar. Since I began warning about this, we’re now seeing it happen. Someone like Peter Obi now understands the coalition was never genuine. It was created to advance Atiku’s ambitions. We’ve learned he’s already looking for other options.”

Kachikwu, who has frequently accused opposition leaders of hijacking his party, vowed not to let ADC become a vehicle for Atiku. He also warned that the 2027 election must not be reduced to a battle among political elites that ignores the interests of ordinary Nigerians.

He stressed, “This election won’t be about class exploitation. We will fight against that. Nigerians must be informed, empowered, and educated about their political power.”

The rising tensions within the ADC-led coalition raise doubts about its ability to remain a unified opposition platform for the 2027 elections.
