Dangote Plans Seaport and Cement Plant Projects in Ogun State

During a meeting with Ogun State officials on Monday, Aliko Dangote informed Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Executive Council of his company’s plans to construct “the largest port in the country” at the Olokola Free Trade Zone, reviving previously abandoned investment projects in the area.
Dangote also announced the development of two new cement production lines in Itori, with a combined annual capacity of 6 million metric tons. Once completed, these facilities will operate alongside the existing 12 million metric ton plant in Ibeshe.
“Our factory at Itori was demolished twice. The second time, not only the factory but also the fence was torn down, so we had to leave. However, thanks to the efforts of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, we are back,” Dangote said.
Governor Abiodun welcomed the investment, emphasizing that the cement expansion would position Ogun State as the largest cement producer in sub-Saharan Africa, with a total production capacity of 18 million metric tons. “The way you selflessly promote this country globally is truly commendable,” the governor remarked.
Dangote noted that 70 percent of his company’s total African cement production is concentrated in Nigeria, with the Obajana plant in Kogi State contributing 16.25 million metric tons annually.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the construction site of the cement plant in Itori and inspected the Papalanto concrete-paved road, a project under the federal government’s tax credit scheme.
Local traditional rulers, including the Olu of Itori, Oba Abdulfatai Akorede Akamo, were also present during parts of the visit.
