China has urged its nationals living in Israel to depart “as soon as possible” as hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, a militant organization supported by Iran in Lebanon, get more intense.

China’s embassy in Israel stated in a statement on Sunday that “the situation along the Israel-Lebanon border is extremely tense, with frequent military conflicts.”

The statement went on to say, “The security situation in Israel remains severe, complex, and unpredictable.”

Chinese nationals in Israel were asked by the embassy to “return home or relocate to safer areas as soon as possible.”

Over the weekend, despite international appeals for caution, tensions escalated as Israel and Hezbollah both threatened to intensify cross-border assaults. Ibrahim Aqil, the leader of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, was killed on Friday after an Israeli airstrike struck a Hezbollah base in southern Beirut.

This comes after many explosions that occurred around Lebanon earlier this week and were blamed on Israel, resulting in 39 fatalities and close to 3,000 injuries.

Following the death of a top Palestinian militant by an Israeli attack last month, China also issued an evacuation order to its citizens residing in Lebanon.
