Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has officially requested the support of the World Food Programme (WFP) to enhance agricultural productivity among local farmers affected by conflict and climate challenges.

During a recent meeting with WFP representatives, Zulum emphasized the urgent need for assistance in providing agricultural inputs, such as seeds and fertilizers, as well as training programs aimed at modern farming techniques. He highlighted that many farmers in Borno have faced significant hardships, struggling to cultivate their lands due to ongoing insecurity and economic instability.

“Our farmers are the backbone of our economy,” Zulum stated. “With the right support, we can not only address food insecurity but also empower our communities to thrive sustainably.”

The WFP representatives acknowledged the critical situation and expressed their commitment to collaborating with the Borno State government. They discussed potential initiatives, including community gardens and livestock distribution, to help rebuild the agricultural sector and improve food security.

As the partnership develops, Zulum remains optimistic that targeted interventions can revitalize the region’s farming capabilities, ensuring a brighter future for Borno’s agricultural landscape.
