On Monday, January 27, Betty Otimenyin formally took over as Edo State’s first female commissioner of police.

A guard of honour greeted Otimenyin as he arrived at the Police Command headquarters shortly before ten in the morning.

Following Umoru Ozigi, who retired on Saturday, January 25, after reaching the obligatory retirement age of 60, she is the 49th person to be appointed as the state’s Commissioner of Police.Otimenyin, a native of Edo State, underlined her dedication to lowering crime rates in the South-South state in a quick conversation with media.

“I will do a lot of things until the crime level comes down,” she stated. She said that in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s opposition to such activities, the command would adopt a more assertive posture on matters like officer extortion.

Additionally, Otimenyin promised to concentrate on stepping up efforts to stop violence against women and children in the state.

In 1992, Otimenyin became a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Nigeria Police Force.

She has since held a number of important roles, such as Commissioner of Police in the Force Intelligence Department (FID), where she was at charge of administration
