But instead of going to their destination, their flight was diverted to Al Abraq airport, which is two hours away. For several hours, the Nigerian players and their representatives were confined to the arrival hall at the airport and were not permitted to leave. Some Nigerians took to X to support Libyan authorities, while others denounced them after a number of Super Eagles players complained that they had been in the Libyan airport for more than 13 hours without a meals.
